Northwestern students have several options as it concerns getting tested for the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). Anonymous or confidential testing options are available.
If you opt for your HIV test to be confidential (non-anonymous):
Appointments may be made in General Medicine or Women's Health by calling 847 491-2204. The test costs $30.00 and is sent out to a reference laboratory. Results are usually available in one week, sometimes sooner. Your name is associated with the test and an entry is made in your medical record that the test was performed. Test results and your medical record are confidential -- only authorized Health Service personnel have access to your file. The test result will be released to outside medical personnel only with your written authorization.
If you opt for your HIV test to be anonymous:
Howard Brown Health Center, in collaboration with Northwestern University Health Service and the LGBT Resource Center, offers free, anonymous HIV testing on the Evanston Campus during the academic year. The testing clinic is available for all students each month during the quarter. The clinic is open during the hours of 1 to 4:00 p.m. at Northwestern University Health Service, Searle Hall, 633 Emerson Street, Evanson Campus. Testing is now available by appointment only. Please call 847 491-2146 to schedule.
