SHAPE is a Northwestern student organization that was initiated during the 06/07 school year in order to provide education, organize events, and generate dialogue surrounding sexual health and sexual assault issues. The ultimate function of SHAPE is to increase students’ comfort surrounding sexuality, encouraging them to learn and adopt sexually healthy behaviors and to recognize and address unhealthy and dangerous behaviors and attitudes regarding sexuality.
Once they are selected, members of SHAPE receive training from current SHAPE educators as well as doctors, nurse practitioners, counselors, and other experts in the fields of sexual health and sexual assault prevention. Peer educators are trained on a range of topics including:
After training, peer educators provide presentations, workshops, and trainings to students in addition to organizing outreach events, collaborating with other student organizations, and serving as a resource for individual students looking for confidential information about sexual health and sexuality resources.
Selection and Training
Prospective new members will be scheduled for an interview during reading week of fall quarter. New members will be notified over winter break. Training will begin in mid-January.
