Health Education's professional team represents a multi-disciplinary approach to health promotion and disease prevention with earned degrees within psychology, community counseling and family services. In addition to our professional staff, Health Education benefits from collaboration with resources including Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), Dining Services, Fitness and Recreation, and the University Police Department.

Kathryn Guilfoyle, BA, BS

Kathryn Guilfoyle is the coordinator of violence prevention and sexual health education at Northwestern University Health Service. Kathryn has a range of experience in sexual assault prevention, peer health education, sex education, curriculum development, and victim advocacy. Kathryn came to Northwestern from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign where she earned a BS in public health promotion and a BA in gender and women's studies.

Michele Morales, MSW, PhD

Michele Morales, M.S.W., Ph.D., worked in the community as a substance abuse therapist before completing a dissertation on the history of addiction science (University of Michigan, 2006). Her research draws from cultural studies and epidemiology to examine substance use among college students and adolescents, with particular attention to women’s binge drinking, prescription drug abuse, and sexual assault. Michele looks forward to developing a research-based health promotion program, and strengthening ties with the Chicago campus and the larger Evanston community. She is delighted to be at Northwestern University and loves bundling up and taking winter walks and bike rides.

Marguerite Tyler, MPH

Maggie started working at Northwestern in February of 2007 as the Department Assistant for Health Education. Maggie received her B.A. in biology from Augustana College in 2005, and her Master of Public Health from Benedictine University in 2006. Her interests include general health and wellness, medicine, epidemiology, and environmental health. Maggie also enjoys reading, music, going to concerts, spending time with friends and family, traveling, and politics.

Vel Vetri, MA, LCPC, CADC

Vel Vetri came to Northwestern University in February 2008 as the Alcohol & Other Drug Coordinator in Health Education. Vel earned his B.S. in Psychology from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in 2001 and M.A. in Counseling Psychology from Northwestern University in 2003. Prior to working with NU, Vel worked in community-based counseling with adolescents in the northwest suburbs of Illinois. He has experience in substance abuse evaluation & intervention, delinquency prevention, family & group counseling, as well as working closely with school districts, juvenile probation, and local law enforcement. Vel’s interest areas include creating innovative interventions for alcohol & other drug violations on campus, peer-led prevention, and a focus on balanced & restorative justice in the university setting.
